"We had the opportunity to speak this week at the African Transport Finance Conference in Abidjan, organised by DELIÔZ GROUP under the leadership of its Managing Director, Johann DJEDJE .
For three days, this conference, rich in discussions and well-attended by representatives of public authorities, provided an opportunity to examine the challenges and opportunities related to financing port, airport, road, and rail infrastructure in Côte d'Ivoire and the sub-region. We addressed the topic of strategic corridors, a key aspect of the European Union's #GlobalGateway platform.
As the EU's financial arm, the European Investment Bank remains heavily involved in the transport sector. We have financed numerous projects along the three strategic corridors identified by the EU that begin and end in Abidjan, namely the Abidjan-Praia, Abidjan-Ouagadougou, and Abidjan-Lagos corridors.
Our transport policy, thoroughly revised in 2022 to ensure its consistency with our climate commitment, guides us toward financing safe, accessible, environmentally friendly, and efficient transport projects. The rehabilitation of the Port of Praia, road sections in Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and Liberia, the modernization of the railway line between Abidjan and Ouagadougou, and the Abidjan-Lagos road are among the projects we have financed or are considering. These also include the Dakar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and lagoon transport in Lagos.
With a dynamic and growing population, the sub-region offers significant opportunities for large-scale infrastructure projects.
We concluded the conference with an impressive visit to the Port of Abidjan, partly managed by AGS Transact Technologies Ltd. What modernity and efficiency!
